Help-Portrait is a movement of photographers who are using their time, equipment and expertise to give back to those who are less fortunate. The goal is simple; find someone in need, take their portrait, print their portrait and deliver them. Started by photographer Jeremy Cowart, this movement has spread around the world; reaching 58 countries at over 600 locations with more than 7000 photographers involved. The Help-Portrait- Vancouver hub was Co-Founded by Ian Sheh and Stephanie Forster Limage back in 2009. The event started in the Down Town East Side of Vancouver ( DTES ) and launched its second annual event at the BC Children’s Hospital the following year.
Help-Portrait Vancouver is a Vancouver event within the worldwide movement and we are a non profit organization. We hold our events at Union Gospel Mission and BC Children’s Hospital every holiday season; welcoming and serving the people who walk though our doors. None of the photographers or volunteers involved are paid or make money from these photographs. None of the pictures taken will be used in personal or commercial websites, or portfolios. In fact, the images taken of our subjects are discarded the day of the event. We have been blessed to partner with organizations like Limage Media Group, Union Gospel Mission and BC Children’s Hospital.
Our 2024 event is on Saturday, November 30th
Where: Union Gospel Mission (601 E Hastings Street, Vancouver)
When: 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM
Our goal is to give as many portraits as we can. To volunteer for this year’s event please click the Sign Up link above.
