We were so thrilled to once again host a Help-Portrait event at BC Children’s Hospital! There were so many smiles and laughs that brightened everyone’s day, and it was clear that a great time was had by all!
One particular patient stood out for Roger Hur, lead photographer for the event. The patient was a very shy 16-year-old girl who reluctantly came to have a picture taken after much persuasion by the Child Life Department. She was surprised and delighted once she saw how fantastic her hair and make-up looked, and was thrilled to see her Mom made-up as well. She told Roger at the beginning of the shoot that she was very interested in photography, and they had great discussions about technical details, film photography, and the new camera she is saving up to buy. Roger was so impressed by her love of photography that he gifted her with an instant film portrait of herself that she could process and enlarge in her high school’s darkroom. In Roger’s words, it was “pure joy” to work with her.
Special thanks to Jenny Ruth and the makeup team for their amazing work, the staff in the BCCH Child Life Department and Beau Photo for their donation of rental equipment. Until next year, BCCH!
